A chat with a colleague about NASCAR pit crews, hospitals, and creative team structure

H: "I remember reading the book "The Medici Effect" probably 15 years ago. The whole premise of the book is about how when you cross-pollinate ideas from other disciplines you get innovation."

A: I love this concept!! it reminds me of this study (and maybe the book had it??) of how a hospital hired NASCAR pit crews to revamp how they brought patients into the ER.

H: Brilliant! I also found it totally fascinating that actually having skills/knowledge in a lot of different areas can be super helpful.

A: I read this other article once about how ER teams are very efficient, even if they haven't worked together, because everyone knows their role - the lead doc and nurse and anesthesiologist etc.

I think about that a lot for teams in creative industries where everyone's role is kind of squishy.

What is the responsibility of each person in a call? And it is creative so it is highly personality-driven, but are there ways to standardize for high performance? Customer-centricity?
